ONLINE Weight Training Course - October 13 to 24
|
|
* Whole number only
|
Weight Training builds on the foundation developed in Fitness Theory and is the next step toward becoming a CFES Weight Training Instructor. This course develops the knowledge and instructional skills needed to safely introduce others to resistance training and the weight room environment.
You'll learn how to apply training principles to resistance training, understand different training methods and equipment, select and teach appropriate exercises, and provide clear instruction and feedback. The course also explores exercise technique, communication, program planning, exercise safety, injury prevention, nutrition and the professional responsibilities and scope of practice of a Weight Training Instructor.
Throughout the course, you'll begin learning how to turn your knowledge into effective instruction - understanding not only what exercises do, but why they are appropriate and how to teach them safely and clearly. These skills prepare you to help apparently healthy adults use weight room equipment safely and effectively. It also provides strong preparation for the Weight Training Practicum and for students continuing their education in Personal Training.
The CFES Weight Training Instructor Manual and Program Booklet (purchased directly from CFES) include activities, assignments and an open-book exam to reinforce your learning throughout the course.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Fitness Theory course.
Note: Classes are scheduled in Pacific Time and every class is recorded. Live attendance is recommended, but recordings are available if you are unable to attend a scheduled class. Students are expected to keep up with homework submissions and complete the open-book exam.
